SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 · AGES 14–19
AUDITIONS
You do not need experience. You do not need a professional headshot. You need a song, a backing track, and a willingness to move.
AUDITION SLOTS
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
Two open sessions, both on Saturday, September 5. Come any time inside the session you pick. Plan on about fifteen minutes once you are there.
✦ Saturday, September 5 · 12:00 – 2:00 pm
If neither session works, sign up anyway and say so in the notes. Erin schedules additional times by request and does it often.
Auditions are held at our director's home studio in El Mirage, Arizona. A parent or guardian is welcome to stay for the whole audition, and there are always two adults in the room. The exact address appears the moment you submit the form below — we keep it off the public page because it is a family's home.
WHAT TO PREPARE
-
SING 32 BARS
About a minute and 45 seconds of a song in an appropriate style, your choice. Bring a backing track. No a cappella. If you have never cut 32 bars before, say so when you request your time and we will help you pick something.
-
COME READY TO MOVE
There is a short dance call during your audition time. Wear clothes and shoes you can move in. You do not need dance training.
-
BRING A HEADSHOT
A clear photo of your face is all we need. A professional headshot is not required. A phone photo in good light is fine.
-
BRING YOUR CONFLICTS
Write down every rehearsal date through October 25 that you already know you will miss. Conflicts do not disqualify you. Surprises after casting are what cause problems.
The participation fee for FLAPPER! is $300. That covers scripts and royalties, costumes, space rental, equipment, and a little toward paying staff. Rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, about nine hours a week through October 25.
Cost should not be why a kid misses out. If $300 is a problem for your family, call Erin and say so. We would rather work something out than lose you.
We are looking for young people of all ethnicities, body types, and gender identifications.

QUESTIONS PARENTS ASK
When are auditions for Singers Wanted Theater?
Auditions for FLAPPER! are Saturday, September 5, 2026, in El Mirage, Arizona. There are two open sessions: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Arrive any time inside the session you choose and plan on about fifteen minutes once you are there.
How old do you have to be to audition?
Singers Wanted Theater casts performers ages 14 to 19. FLAPPER! is cast entirely from that range. If your student turns 14 during the rehearsal period, call Erin at 623-687-7646 and ask — that one is worth a conversation rather than a rule.
Do I need experience to audition for a musical?
No. No experience is required and none is assumed. Singers Wanted Theater was built for young people who want to learn, including first-timers. If you have never cut 32 bars of a song before, say so when you request your slot and we will help you pick something.
What do I need to prepare for the audition?
Bring four things: about 32 bars of a song in an appropriate style with a backing track, no a cappella; clothes and shoes you can move in for a short dance call; a clear photo of your face; and a written list of every rehearsal date through October 25 you already know you will miss.
Do I need a professional headshot?
No. A clear photo of your face is all we need, and a phone photo taken in good light is completely fine. We ask for it so the directing team can match names to faces during casting, not to judge how it was shot.
Where are auditions held, and can a parent stay?
Auditions are held at our director’s home studio in El Mirage, Arizona. The exact address appears on screen as soon as you submit the sign-up form. We keep it off the public page because it is a family’s home, not a venue. A parent or guardian is welcome to stay for the whole audition, and there are always two adults in the room.
What is the rehearsal schedule if my student is cast?
Rehearsals are three days a week: Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm, running September through October 25. Tech week is October 26 to 28 and performances run October 29 to November 7. Not every cast member is called to every rehearsal.
What does it cost to audition and to be in the show?
Auditioning is free. If your student is cast, the participation fee for FLAPPER! is $300, which covers scripts and royalties, costumes, space rental, equipment, and a little toward paying staff. If $300 is a problem for your family, call Erin. We would rather work something out than lose you.
What if neither audition session works for our schedule?
Sign up anyway and say so in the notes. Erin schedules additional audition times by request and does it often. You can also call or text her directly at 623-687-7646 to arrange a time outside the two Saturday sessions.
How many young people get cast?
FLAPPER! has thirty-two roles and we cast as many as the show can hold. If far more people audition than the production can carry there will be cuts, and there will also be another show. Casting here starts from who wants to work, not from who is already known.
Is there a youth theater like this anywhere else in the West Valley?
Very little. The West Valley of metro Phoenix has grown enormously and the theaters here mostly do plays. Singers Wanted Theater exists so that a family in Surprise, Peoria, Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park or Buckeye is not driving to Scottsdale on a Tuesday night for a musical.
